Greyhound January
I saved $30 by taking the 4 AM bus instead of the 9. Chunky snow fell. I got tired, sank into sleep. I woke up as the bus driver hit the brakes. We slid down the highway and hit a van. The windshield smashed to varicose. Blue snow, swerving. We hit the cement partition, then another car, then another. We pulled over. I checked the time, it was 4:55.
Now I wait at a rest stop with the other passengers. I draw my dog on an old library slip to cut the fat off the hours. There is little heat in here. The others pace, talk on phones, eat chips from the 711. The snow outside waits too.
